I've been reading and listening to preachings about prayer
over and over for more than a month now. It's because I know very well it is
something I'm weak and lacked discipline at. Yesterday, I prayed: "Lord, I
want to learn how to pray like Jesus did." In the Bible, we'd read that
Jesus was a man of prayer. He would constantly "draw away" to commune
with the Father. And He usually did this at dawn. Like what Paul Washer said in
one of his sermons, the battle is done early in the morning at 5:30, giving to
God his "first hour." He even recalled the story of Jacob wrestling
with an angel until daybreak, to whom he said "I will not let you go until
you bless me!" I've done this morning prayers a few times in the past but
it hasn't actually become a practice in my Christian life as it ought to be. So
I prayed to God yesterday, "Lord, you have to help me on this. You know
me. I love sleep and I love my bed. You have to help me wake up before sunrise
to pray."
This morning I found myself wide awake at 5:30. I checked my
phone for the prayer requests that I got yesterday and starting talking to God,
laying down my petitions and claiming His promises. I didn't even notice that
it has been more than an hour. It was exhilarating! God indeed hears and
answers the prayers of His children! All glory to God!
