A THOUGHT ON PRAYER
This morning, as I got up to pray, the Holy Spirit
impressed something in my heart -- a reminder, a warning, a call to re-examine
my heart: Why do I wake up early in the morning to pray?
Is it because I believe He is the God who answers
prayers? Is it because I believe He can break through the situation I am going
through? Is it because I know He can heal the people I've been praying for? Is
it because He is the source of my strength, courage and joy? Or is it because I
simply desire fellowship with the Lord because He is worthy?
Do I wake up in the morning excited to grasp at the
reward or to be awestruck by the glory of the Rewarder?
It's frightening to think how "good" things,
can easily become an idol. So when I pray, I try to always remind myself never
to run callously to the throne of my King. Instead, I ask the Holy Spirit to
"Search me and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts, see if
there's any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Read Ps.
139:23-24).
Let's first seek the Kingdom, not for its riches, but to
find and have fellowship with the King of kings. Let us delight in His
presence, marvel at His glory. He is worthy.
Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the LORD, and He
will give you the desires of your heart."
