Facebook-ing with a Purpose
When Facebook was just starting to become popular in the
Philippines (recalling "Friendster" and "Multiply" days), I
started to have this desire to quit posting nonsense (e.g. "I may be
smiling.... but deep inside... i'm thinking of a Turkey-Swiss-Avocado
sandwich)and begin Facebook-ing with a purpose. I am a Christian. I should be
telling people about God. So I quit planting and harvesting eggplants beside a
field of lavender flowers (my purple FarmVille) and closed my super awesome
"Adobo-Puto Shop" Restaurant (Restaurant City).
I began to compile quotes from Christian authors throughout
history and began posting one or two quotations that encouraged me that day.
This soon gave birth to a prayer in my heart. There has to
be something that happened to these people, something they went through that
made them conclude or confirm an attribute of God and testify about it through
their writings. It's one thing to read or hear about these attributes, but
another to really experience them. Have they experienced sickness to really
know that God heals? Did they go through nothingness to know that the Lord
provides. Have they experienced brokenness to know that God restores and loves
them deeply? Have they gone through such desperation to know the meaning of
amazing grace?
In hunger I prayed, "Lord I want what they have! I want
to know what they know!"
I worship a GOD who answers prayers. I am truly humbled and
awed by how He has led me all these years so that I may know Him more each day.
Indeed the Lord usually lets us go through valley experiences so that we may
learn and be molded. But what I'm really grateful for is how He slowly
developed in me a desire to study His Word. Through the Spirit's guidance in
reading the Scriptures, I began to know the Lord and His amazing attributes.
The more I know God, the more my faith is strengthened, and the more I bravely
face adversities.
My prayer was indeed answered. I now have what those writers
had, I now know what they know - GOD himself. My prayer now is to continue to
know Him more and more each day and be able to walk in close fellowship with
Him. And... yeah, of course, to continue Facebook-ing with a purpose - to
declare the magnificence of God. To Him be all glory.
